Michael Whelan & H.P. Lovecraft


Michael Whelan created these stunning paintings as covers for Del Rey's 1980s paperback editions of the work of famed author H.P. Lovecraft. Imagery from both paintings was ultimately published as seven total covers: six using tight details one larger "best of" collection that reproduced a larger section of the paintings. A couple samples of the published covers are below. The paintings are for sale right now if you have some spare cash around.

    I have some of these books and the images are very very disturbing. Lovecraft brings out the worst/best in so many artists.
