Convicts vs. Alligator!

Here is a painting of convicts fighting an alligator. The artist's name is Dick Kiel. This painting was probably done for a men's adventure magazine in the 1960's. There's really not much else to say about it, they don't do illustrations like this anymore.

Tales to Tremble By

The cover to this book scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. It was published by Whitman in 1966. I don't know who the artist on the cover was. The book has illustrations by someone named Shannon Stirnweis which are pretty lackadaisical, nothing like the cover. Not even worth scanning one to share here.

My brother got this book when I was around 7 or 8 years old. We went to the toy store for my birthday and I got the Zeroid Action Set. My brother got to pick out something too, and he got this book. I didn't even like being in the same house with it. Instead of running away from home, sometimes I'd try to hide the book, or go in his room to peek at it to freak myself out.

It actually has nice selection of classic ghost stories, including "The Hand" by Guy de Maupassant, "The Middle Toe of the Right Foot" by Ambrose Bierce, and "The Judge's House" by Bram Stoker.

Below is the cover presented full-on in all of its kid-terrifying glory, and below that is scan of the whole wraparound cover.

My brother still has his copy of the book, I wish I still had that Zeroid set.

Deborah Harry

I've always like this picture of Debbie Harry. There's a picture of her by Andy Warhol in the background, I point that out because this blog is supposed to have something to do with art.
