I've been enjoying the blog Women Running From Houses. So here's some gothic romance art:

Art by Geoffrey Biggs for Wuthering Heights, Classics Illustrated #59, 1949.

Wuthering Heights paperback cover art by Robert McGinnis.

Cover art by Arthur Sarnoff for unknown romance book.

The Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love #3, February 1972. Cover art by Jeff Jones.

Cover for The Silent Place by Rachel Cosgrove Payes, 1969. Art by George Gross.

Cover for Besides, the Wench is Dead by Margaret Erskine. Art by Harry Barton.

Another cover by Harry Barton.
Cover art for The Winds of Night by Anne Maybury, 1963. Unknown artist.

Hi, I've just posted a couple of Wuthering Heights books I own. One of them, a 1974 Bantam edition, appears to feature the same artwork as your Robert McGinnis picture above – only a cottage has been drawn in the background and scrubland added to the foreground. The woman looks identical though. Would the original artwork be changed so radically for a book cover? thanks, sara.
